Be Sure That Your Body Is Not Somewhat Dehydrated
It is logical to assume that your inborn thirst drive is a reliable guide to how much water you should consume. However, quite a few people don’t think enough water. The reason for this are several, ranging from medical problem to the way in which a given a person’s hypothalamus functions. People who don’t take it sufficient amounts of water may suffer from mild dehydration. This condition can be a factor in several problems including constipation and migraine headaches. It can also be a factor in insomnia.
In order to counteract nighttime dehydration it is a good idea to drink a full eight ounce glass of water, or the equivalent in milk, decaffeinated coffee, or caffeine free herbal tea within a one hour period before retiring. (Some people argue that a glass of clear of these beverages is not equivalent to a glass of clear water. This is incorrect. The bulk of all three of them is simply water.)
Resistance to drinking the equivalent of a full glass of water shortly before retiring is often expressed in the protest, But then I’ll have to get up and go to the bathroom during the night. That’s right. And, oddly, even if you are somewhat dehydrated your kidneys will produce urine, and you’ll have to get up anyway. You might not void quite as much if you’re somewhat dehydrated, but this is obviously of no advantage.
