Styling Formulas That Add Volume To Your Hair
Most of the product you used before these programs to hold and mold your hair to achieve your personal style actually are a chief factor in hair damage and loss. Many of them contain drying isopropyl alcohol base, which is ordinary use as a topical anti-microbial to make rum, whiskey, or vodka. Isopropyl alcohol can weaken the protective cuticle layer of the hair shaft, as well as irritate and inflame the follicles that hold the hair to the scalp. The same is true of the alcohol free product available now. The alcohol has been removed, but the damage effects of the other chemicals haven’t.
Fortunately there are several natural alternatives that you can make in your kitchen, several of which actually promote hair growth rather then the damage and loss of the store purchased items.
Egg Setting Formula
- 1 tablespoon egg white
- 4 tablespoons tepid water
Combine the water and egg whites with a whisk until the ingredients form a smooth lotion. If you are not intending on using this immediately, store in a small jar refrigerate. When washing your hair, remember to use cool water, or else the egg will poach on your scalp.
Unflavored gelatin combined with water is another good essential styling gel from which there are several excellent variations you can try.
Essential Gelatin styling Formula
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
Heat the water to just before boiling point. Add the gelatin stirring until completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow cooling. The mixture is ready to use when firm to the touch. If you prefer the gel to be on the stiff side, cool in the refrigerator although this mixture is just as effective when used at room temperature. Use a small amount for styling either wet or dry hair.
