Research suggests that in people with eczema the mechanism for making GLA is faulty, with the result that they are unable to make enough for normal skin structure and function.
Large doses (three to six capsules a day) are needed, and it may by eight to twelve weeks before the effects are noticeable. Evening primrose oil is available on prescription in the UK under the trade name Epogam. It has to be said that orthodox medical opinion appears to be swinging away from evening primrose oil. However, some people with eczema swear by it, and many alternative practitioners still recommended it and report good results.
